Questionnaire – Mothers / Carers Have Your Say

Crossroads Women is working with mothers and other carers at our Women’s Centre in Kentish Town to circulate the questionnaire "Mothers/Carers Have Your Say". We want to give a voice to women’s views about their caring work, and what is happening to them and those they care for in these hard times of cuts to benefits and services, job losses and falling wages.

The questionnaire came out of discussions mothers and other carers using our Centre have been having. They feel that caring work – in the home, community, hospitals, schools and every institution – is being devalued, and that as a result the carers and those they care for are also being devalued. Single mothers told us they object to being seen as ‘workless’, and are upset that Income Support has ended because it was the only benefit which recognised their caring work as a contribution to society. Mothers who go out to work also told us they felt they were no longer in charge of deciding what’s best for their children’s wellbeing because of the pressures and the necessity to get or keep a job. We decided to find out more.

Please, take a moment to answer the questions (anonymously) and return the questionnaire to us. Take copies for your friends, other women in your family or women you meet through your work.

You can email it back to, drop it into the Women’s Centre, or post it back.

If you want to stay in touch please leave your name, email and/or phone number on the questionnaire.
